In a crystal, the arrangement that can be found at any lattice point is called the basis of the crystal. The basis may contain one or more atoms, molecules, etc. Other words: the basis is the repeating structural element of the crystal.
If the basis only contains a single atom, then the lattice points give the coordinates of the atoms.
